You’ve probably seen bamboo on tons of baby and kids’ clothes. It’s soft, it’s marketed as eco-friendly, and it’s everywhere right now.
But if you’ve wondered why we use TENCEL™ instead. It's because most bamboo clothing out there is not what it's known to be.
Isn’t bamboo eco-friendly?
Yes! The bamboo plant itself grows fast, needs little water, and doesn’t require pesticides. Sounds amazing, right?
But here's the catch..
It’s not about the plant. It’s about how it’s made.
Most of the time, when you see bamboo fabric, it’s actually bamboo viscose or bamboo rayon.
These are made by:
- Breaking down bamboo using heavy chemicals including sodium hydroxide and carbon disulfide. Both are toxic chemicals that can cause serious health issues
- Releasing fumes and heavy chemical waste into the environment
- Processing in ways that are not always regulated
Why we choose TENCEL™ instead
We want to keep things gentle—for your little one and for the planet. So instead of using bamboo viscose, we chose TENCEL™, because:
✅ It's made from FSC-certified wood pulp (from eucalyptus and beech trees)
✅ It uses a closed-loop system that recycles over 99% of water and solvent
✅ The production is non-toxic, traceable, and transparent
✅ It’s just as soft, if not softer
For little ones with sensitive skin
What touches your child’s skin matters. We didn’t want to take chances with hidden chemicals or harsh processing. TENCEL™ is naturally smooth, breathable, and hypoallergenic. So it's perfect for kids with eczema, sensitivities, heat rash or just about any kids who sweat (hello, Singapore heat).
So, is bamboo bad?
Not always. There are some that are better than others. But most bamboo fabrics today are not the “green” option they appear to be. We know many parents genuinely want to make better choices, and that’s why we want to be open about ours.
We’re not here to shame, just to share. Because when you know better, you choose better.
